France defeat Denmark to win Star Sixes tournament

France legends defeated Denmark 2-1 at the O2 Arena to be crowned champions of the inaugural Star Sixes tournament.

Ludovic Giuly and Youri Djorkaeff scored for the French side captained by Arsenal legend Robert Pires. However, Daniel Jensen’s lone goal wasn’t enough to hand Denmark the international title.

“I’m very proud of my team,” Pires told Sky Sports. “It’s always very important to do well whenever you put the French shirt on. It was a very tough game.

“The legs were a bit heavy and Denmark played very well, so we’re very happy to win the tournament.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria was knocked out of the competition in the Quarter-finals after being whipped 8-1 by Spain. The Spanish side also defeated Brazil 11-3 to claim third place.

Spain’s Míchel Salgado is the tournament’s top scorer, while France’s Ludovic Giuly and Brazilian forward, Julio Baptista follow with five goals each.

Well, Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored four goals for Nigeria and it’s worth celebrating!
