Nigerians hail Ooni, Soyinka for anti-Ruga comments

Nigerians have praised Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who recently charged Nigerians to defend the sanctity of their ancestral lands.
The duo made the statement in response to the ultimatum by a northern group after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Ruga settlements projects across the country.
Soyinka and the Ooni made the call for the defence of ancestral heritage in a communiqué released on Sunday following a meeting on July 4 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“We reaffirm our commitment to the rights of every individual, every community, every collectivity of human beings as primary, and preeminent over and above all other parameters of human development or formal associations.
“In this regard, the recent ultimatum delivered by a sectarian order to the president of this nation to set up the so-called RUGA cattle settlements across the entire nation within a stipulated time, despite national outcry, should be acknowledged as entitlement under the bounty of freedom of expression.
“In return, we exercise ours, and call upon Nigerian nationals across state demarcations to defend the sanctity of their ancestral lands. This birthright has never been annulled, not even under colonial occupation,” the communiqué said.
Nigerians have shown their support for the call on social media.
Finally Soyinka and Ooni has agreed Nigeria is contraption. If you think @MaziNnamdiKanu is not working you are foolish and stupid. #ojorohttps://t.co/0ySjCWjAoh

The great Ooni of Ife and Pa Wole Soyinka have made clear their take on the Ruga settlement. His Majesty and the literary giant say NO and urge Yoruba leaders to defend their lands. pic.twitter.com/Y9WtnDLfJq

Thank God Wole Soyinka and the Ooni are finally speaking up by encouraging Southern folks to defend their lands. But be warned that those who hijacked Nigeria’s oil wealth for their cabals over the decades, will stop at nothing to take your lands; for vanishing.

Sadly an elder statesman like @abati1990 takes delight in escalating some of these dangerous rhetorics from Wole Soyinka and Ooni of Ife calling Nigns to defend their land, defend their land against who exactly? I think the Ooni and Wole Soyinka should tone down their war songs

Ooni enjoining Yorubas to defend their lands for being used for RUGA is a wrong call.
Ooni should rather summon the South West Governors and explain the position of Yorubas on the matter to them.

Thank you Ooni.
Our national pledge said “…to defend her (Nigeria) unity and to uphold her honour and glory so help me God”
